Facial Enhancement Acupuncture
How can facial enhancement acupuncture help you?
Facial enhancement acupuncture is a very effective holistic therapy which can address specific facial skin conditions like eye bags, fine lines and rosacea. It can help eliminate dark circles and puffy eyes as well as tighten drooping eyelids. It will also reduce the visibility of pores and help control acne.
Facial enhancement acupuncture can also be used more generally to improve your skin vitality and radiance and reduce the signs of ageing. It relaxes your muscle tone, increases oxygenation to your skin and increases local collagen production.
Think of it as moisturising from the inside as your skin is rejuvenated to look healthier and rosier!
What does facial enhancement acupuncture involve?
Very small needles (including exceptionally fine intra-dermal needles) are carefully inserted into the area to be treated. Needles may also be sited at meridian points on your body and ears. These points will be specifically chosen to address a wide range of issues that affect skin health like poor sleep, stress and smoking.
It’s a safe effective alternative to other non-surgical face treatments. It’s more gradual, less invasive and far more natural. There are no chemicals or injections involved. You may possibly experience minor side effects of slight bruising or spot bleeding at the needle site but it’s rare. The treatment also includes jade roller massage therapy which is an effective way to stimulate lymphatic drainage and reduce muscular tension in your face.
The initial assessment and treatment will take around 75 minutes with subsequent sessions taking about an hour. An initial course of 12 to 15 sessions over two to three months is usually needed with follow-up maintenance treatments every four to six weeks.

Derma-roller Microneedling Therapy
What is it?
It’s an intense and effective therapy used to induce new collagen without any chemicals. It’s sometimes called a ‘non ablative’ skin treatment. This means the deeper parts of your skin are treated without removing the top layer.
A derma-roller (a roller with extremely fine sharp acupuncture microneedles) is used in a repetitive rolling motion in the area to be treated. It creates a very carefully controlled injury underneath your skin's surface. Your body responds by forming new tissue layers of elastin and collagen as well as new capillaries which improves the blood supply in the treated area so it becomes plumper and thicker. The channels from the microneedles allow topical gels and creams to be absorbed more effectively through the top layer of your skin.
What are its benefits?
It can treat various skin conditions like fine lines, wrinkles and scarring from acne and photodamage. It can improve your skin colour and other skin texture changes and can also help reverse male hair loss. It can also help with cellulite and stretch marks.
Natural collagen takes up to 6 months to develop and will last up to 5 years. For maximum benefits you’ll need 6 sessions with 2 to 4 weeks between treatments. Each session lasts between 60 to 75 minutes. As well as the derma-rolling, each session includes a soothing jade roller massage and an acupressure massage to end your therapy session. You’ll also be given specialist serum to use at home between your treatments.
Are there any side effects with derma-rolling?
Side effects and risks are low. You might find your skin flakes slightly or feels a little dryer than usual. Very rarely there may be mild scab formation; infection is highly unlikely as the tiny pricking channels close within minutes and the therapy is done under clinical conditions.
Small white skin spots (milia) could form which can be treated if they’re persistent. Hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin area treated is highly unlikely but can very rarely occur. This is usually temporary and subsides after the first couple of months. Suitable make-up will conceal this if necessary.
When are these treatments not appropriate?
Derma-rolling and facial enhancement acupuncture are not suitable for you if you:
- Have used Roaccutane (isotretinoin) within the last 3 months
- Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on your skin
- Have had radiation treatment to your skin within the last year
- Have any kind of current active skin infection, condition or herpes simplex in the area to be treated. If you have a history of cold sores then this could possibly flare up after the therapy. Please let me know so we can discuss whether you’ll need anti-viral medication prior to treatment.
- Are pregnant or breast feeding.
- Have keloid or hypertrophic scars
I’d be very happy to have a chat with you if you have any questions or need more information.
Research published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal suggested treatment benefits include elimination of some wrinkles and decrease in length and depth of others, decrease of facial edema, decrease of acne, improvement of facial muscle tone, improved skin texture with tighter pores, and decrease of sagging around the eyes, cheeks, chin and neck.
